Sometimes I Forget
When I am experiencing high levels of stress and overwhelm, it is easier for me to forget that little, quick things can make a big difference in how I feel.
Recognizing when I start to feel stressed is the first step because often we get so caught up in what we are doing, we don't even realize the toll the feeling is taking on us. So it's become incredibly vital for me to take a moment each day to check in with myself.
Something as simple as standing outside for five minutes and becoming really present in my body can make the whole day seem lighter and brighter.
With mindful practice it is becoming more familiar to do this.
The more we practice something, the better we get at it and the more automatic it becomes. I encourage you to take five minutes for yourself the next time you are feeling overwhelmed to do something that you really like. Dance, sing, breathe deeply, draw, sex, play music, watch birds... whatever seems good for you at the time.
